Private AI · For UK law firms

AI for your firm.
Client files stay in your office.

I set up AI assistants that run on your firm's own hardware. Your team can search, summarise and draft from case files, and client data never goes to OpenAI, Microsoft, Google or anyone else. I'm based in Liverpool and set everything up at your office.

The problem

Your team is probably using AI already.

AI tools save fee earners hours, so staff try them, often by pasting client documents into a public chatbot. Once that happens, confidential information has left the firm and sits with a third party, under their terms.

Your duty of confidentiality and your obligations under UK GDPR don't change because a tool is convenient. Banning AI just pushes the habit out of sight. The safer option is to give your team AI that never sends data outside the building.

What it does

Work your team already does, faster.

01

Ask your documents

Ask questions across a matter in plain English, e.g. "Which leases have a break clause before 2028?", and get answers that point to the exact page.

02

Summaries & chronologies

Turn long bundles, disclosure and correspondence into summaries, key-fact lists and chronologies your team can check and build on.

03

First drafts

Draft letters, attendance notes and routine documents from your own precedents and house style, ready for a fee earner's review.

04

Review & compare

Compare contracts against your standard terms and flag the clauses that differ, so reviewers start from what matters.

05

Search past work

Find the precedent, advice note or clause you know exists somewhere in the firm's files, without remembering which folder it's in.

06

Enquiry triage

Summarise new enquiries and incoming documents so the right person sees the right matter quickly.

Confidentiality

How your data stays private.

These are the questions your compliance lead should ask. Here are the straight answers.

  • It runs in your office

The AI runs on a dedicated machine on your premises, or on a private server your firm controls. Open-source models run locally. Nothing is sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft or Google.

  • It works with the internet off

Unplug the network cable and it keeps working. That's the simplest proof that client data isn't going anywhere.

  • You control access

Staff log in with their own accounts, access can be limited by team, and activity is logged, so you can see who used it and when.

  • I only have the access you give

After setup, I can't see your files. If you want me to help with support, access is over an encrypted connection that you switch on and off.

  • Paperwork for your compliance file

I'll sign an NDA and a data processing agreement, and give you a written description of the setup to support your DPIA and risk register.

How it works

Start small, with one team.

  1. 01

    Free call

30 minutes, by phone or at your office. We pick one team and one task where AI would save the most time.

  2. 02

    Fixed-price pilot

You get a clear scope, timeline and price for a small pilot before you commit to anything bigger.

  3. 03

    Setup & training

I install everything on site, connect it to the documents for the pilot, and train the team in person.

  4. 04

    Review together

We look at the results with the team. You decide whether to expand, adjust or stop, and the hardware stays yours.

Why me

Built, not just talked about.

I run my own private AI platform, Hannah: local AI models, an encrypted document vault and remote access only over a private VPN, with no data going to any AI company. It's the same setup I install for firms.

Before Lunowisky, I spent 5+ years building fintech and payment systems: regulated software handling thousands of transactions a day, where security and reliability aren't optional.

“Ray has been a very important partner in setting up our analysis tools. He developed code to interpret unstructured data using generative AI, which substantially improved our capabilities in natural language processing.”

FAQ

Questions firms ask.

Does any client data go to OpenAI, Microsoft or Google?

No. The AI models run on hardware in your office or on a private server your firm controls. Documents and questions are processed there and never sent to an AI company.

Is a local AI as good as ChatGPT?

For searching, summarising and drafting from your own documents, today's open-source models are very capable. For the hardest open-ended reasoning, the big cloud models still lead. I'll tell you honestly what will work well for your tasks before you spend anything.

Can the AI get things wrong?

Yes, like any AI. That's why answers point back to the source documents, so fee earners can check them quickly. It's a tool to speed up your team's work, not a replacement for professional judgement.

What hardware do we need?

Usually one dedicated workstation or small server with a suitable graphics card, sitting in your office. I'll specify it, set it up and include it in the fixed price, or use a private server you already have.

Will it work with our case management system?

It can work with documents on your shared drive or exported from your system. Whether it can connect directly depends on the system. We'll check that on the first call.

How does this fit our SRA and UK GDPR obligations?

It's designed so client data stays on systems your firm controls, which makes confidentiality much easier to manage than with cloud AI. Your firm remains responsible for compliance, so I provide the documentation your COLP and DPO need to assess it.

What does it cost?

You get a fixed price after the free call, with the pilot priced on its own so you can test before committing. There's no hourly billing and no per-user AI subscription.

Do you only work in Liverpool?

I'm based in Liverpool and visit firms across Merseyside and the North West in person. Firms elsewhere in the UK can do everything remotely, with an on-site visit for installation.
